(Q)  What’s the bottom line about our eternal destiny?

(A)  If you have only been born once, you shall die twice. If you have been born twice, you will only die once; (maybe). Our first birth, this birth “from the flesh” does not qualify us for Heaven.  It can’t.  Those that are in the flesh cannot please God, Romans 8: 5-8:  5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. This is why your first birth in the flesh will not quality you for Heaven. Being born only once means you will die a physical death, and a second spiritual death eternally in the lake of fire.

The reason that man cannot please God in the flesh and will die twice if only born once is because of what happened in the Garden of Eden some 6,000 years ago when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command not to eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden. God told them you shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. As we know they did eat of that tree, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When Adam and Eve ate of that tree they sinned against God and were cast out of the Garden of Eden. We are now all Adam’s progeny—Adam’s kids. Because of Adam’s sin we have all become inheritors of Adam’s sin nature and we will all die twice, physically and spiritually unless we are born twice. We all sin because we are all sinners from birth because of Adam’s and Eve’s disobedience long ago in that beautiful Garden of Eden. I need to make the point that when God said to Adam and Eve they would die if they ate the forbidden fruit, God meant spiritual death, and physical death only after they lived out their full life span at that time. Read Genesis 3: 1-24 about Adam’s and Eve’s sin if you can, it will help you to understand what I have told you a little better.

This site has the responsibility to teach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Everyone’s eternal destiny is very serious business! There is nothing more important in your life than the subject of your eternal destiny! Your eternal destiny is in your hands!

God says everyone needs to be born again (twice), if you want to be with God in Heaven when you die. John 3: 6-7:  6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Titus 3: 4-7:  4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

God is real; the Holy Bible is His Word to us; it is completely trust worthy; it has been 100% accurate in all of its prophecies and God says in 11 Timothy 3: 16 it can be used for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. The question to you is this, do you believe? Do you believe there is a God? If you believe there is a God, do you believe in God’s Word the Holy Bible? If you do not believe there is a God then I cannot help you, and sorry to say but whether or not you believe any of these things, it will not change the fact that when you die your unbelief will send you straight to your eternal destiny, the lake of eternal fire, no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. That is the bottom line!

However, God is not willing that any should perish, 11 Peter 3: 9:   9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But remember, and remember this well; you have been given free will by God to make your own decisions in life, including your eternal destiny. God will not allow anyone still in their sins to enter Heaven, for He is a Holy God and no sin will ever be in His presence. But God has provided the one and only provision necessary for anyone to be born again, (twice) and come to him and escape an eternal destiny in the lake of eternal fire. The book of Acts  gives us the answers how to obtain an eternal destiny in Heaven with God and escape the lake of eternal fire. That way is through Christ Jesus, see Acts 4: 10-12:  10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Don’t be surprised that the world hates the doctrine of the new birth. New birth indicates that you have been taken out of the world’s system and moved into God’s, through a miracle that God Himself has worked. And that leaves worldlings on the outside looking in. Relatives and friends, and everyone that you meet on the pathway of life may resent you with your “born again” experience because they equate salvation with man becoming good enough to be acceptable to God. Consequently, they think that you are claiming to be better than they are.

We cannot afford to come across as superior to others. We must not reject their claim to be as good as, or better than we are. We are here to win souls, not competitions! We are not the issue. We are not important enough to become the issue. The issue is Christ! Turn over a rock and you may find a bunch of grubs. Some of the grubs will be larger than others, some shinier, some more active, but all are grubs. It is the same with us sinners. Some have committed fewer sins, smaller sins, “nicer sins,” but all are rebels against God, and we are all equally lost until totally saved.

So, what’s real? The new birth, for one thing. It is as real as the laws that govern this physical universe. One very important thing: The Devil may hold it up to scorn, but you must have it! The Bible teaches it. God brings it to pass. Christ emphasizes it. Without it, you’ll never make Heaven your home! The world has its own idea of reality, but it’s a totally unreal view. The world will always substitute religion for the new birth. Religion is the Devil’s ace in the hole. Religion has never saved one single soul. Religion is not the Bible’s answer to man’s lostness. Christ is the answer. Christ is the only Savior that the Word of God offers to lost sinners. The Bible, from cover to cover, is all about Him! It’s all about the Savior and His salvation, offered without price to anyone who is willing to receive it as a gift!

A good pastor will teach the “whole counsel of God,” and keep back “nothing that [is] helpful'” to his audience. But the diamond in this setting is the gospel, the good news of the Savior. A good pastor will never tire of preaching it, inserting it somewhere in every teaching, and frequently making it the subject of his teaching. A due emphasis on the crosswork of our Lord will certainly grow tiresome to the flesh -to the once-born – but it will always be an oasis of refreshment to the twice-born, to those who have tasted and seen that the Lord is good as it says in Psalm 34: 8:  8O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Our first birth enabled us to live fallen Adam’s life and do the things that we want to do, insofar as the world, the flesh, and the Devil permit them. Being born again empowers us to live the Christ life and do the things that we ought to do, those things that please God. Philippians 2: 13:  13For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

The great tragedy of Christian history is that so few have ever exploited the advantages afforded us by our being born of the Spirit. The great irony in this is that the Christ life satisfies, where the self life does not! All of us live our lives in constant pursuit of fulfillment. Most of us look for it in all the wrong places. Fulfillment resides in the center of God’s will, the one place that the Devil gets us to dread!

There’s more, dear Friend, than playing church. Many of the components of the little game of church are good things. Learning, fellowshipping, serving, giving, praying, singing, regularly attending, and bringing others all are good things that we should do. But Christ Himself may just be added to it all as an addendum, or missing from it altogether. After God and family, the local assembly should be my priority, even before country! But Christ is my life, and must be my passion. And there must be no golden calves competing with Him. I must ask myself continually: Is Christ my passion? Is He the center of all my plans? The core of my daily life? Is He my reason for living?

I can, I should, and I must view life as a pilgrimage. This world is not my home; I’m just passing through it. That’s what pilgrims do, Brother, they just pass through. That’s what pilgrims are all about, Sister, just passing through. This world – Vanity Fair – ceased to be my home at the exact moment of my spiritual birth. That’s truly reality. Everything else is something other. I’m a spiritual creature now, living in a material environment, a part of the new creation still living in my old creation body. I am a citizen of Heaven on loan to planet Earth. When I think otherwise than this, as Satan would have me do, and as my fleshly mind is prone to doing, my life becomes unreal by God’s standards. The world will treat me better, but my heart will treat me worse.

Everything needs to function as its designer and manufacturer meant it to do. A new Cadillac convertible sitting on someone’s front lawn, filled with topsoil and petunias and being used as a planter is a monstrosity, though it may be beautiful. New Cadillacs weren’t meant to be planters. They were designed for a much grander purpose. We believers weren’t designed and equipped to live as citizens of Vanity Fair. We were meant to live the life of tomorrow today. We were designed for the Christ life. We were meant to live the life under Grace, energized by the power of Christ within. Romans 6: 14: 14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

What an adventure the Christ life is. It may be characterized by difficulties that the world has never known. It may be filled with struggles, disappointments, failures, discomfort and pain. But it honors God, and it satisfies the soul in a way that the self life can never do. The Spirit within may lead you to places that you would never choose to go, to do things that you would never choose to do, but when you step from time into eternity, you will do so with no regrets. I’ve never heard a dying Christian expressing regret that he had lived the Christ life. I’ve heard them express regret that they hadn’t, that they had lived the self life. To obey the will of God, though it sounds like the scariest possible thing to do, is to live in the safest place in the universe, and the best place this side of Heaven!

When Adam sinned, fell, and died spiritually he became a monster. He was still capable of human good, but he now had a capacity for unimaginable evil. I was in his loins at the time, as much a part of him as his fingers and toes, his heart and his mind. When he sinned, I sinned. When he fell, I fell. When he died his spiritual death, I died mine. Unregenerate man doesn’t like this kind of teaching; he prefers to think that he is inherently good. Nothing arouses his ire like hearing God say, “If you being evil”-  Luke 11: 13: 13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Man tries to still the voice of God by clothing himself in the fig leaves of self-righteousness and hiding in the forest of human viewpoint. The trouble is that he can’t get away from himself. He can’t still the voice of history. History echoes Scripture, “This is an evil generation” – Luke 11: 29:  29And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

If you find it impossible to wrap your little mind around the concept of eternity in Heaven, so do I. Thank God that we don’t have to understand it all to believe it all! It is difficult to contemplate a land free of the least sorrow and full of inexpressible joy. We now live surrounded by hospitals, psych wards, funeral parlors, cemeteries, battlefields, divorce courts, abortion clinics, juvenile homes, prisons, and other reminders of our fallen and unnatural state. We have come to accept all this abnormality as normal. We have become so used to sickness, injury, aging, poverty, rejection and death that freedom from all these seems incredible! We live with fear and can’t seem to imagine life without it.

Tomorrow seems unreal. But when tomorrow comes for the believer, bringing Heaven with it, it is our present life on Earth that will seem unreal! Heaven, with all that it holds, will be our new and eternal reality. The life that we are living today, right now, will seem little more than one long bad dream. Thank God! No more war, with its brutality. No more poverty, with children going to bed hungry night after night. No more torture, rape, child abuse or slavery. No more broken hearts. Righteousness will triumph and peace will reign. God will be all in all! You will know clearly what you have been, what you have become, and who you are – and will be for eternity.

Who are you now? If you have been born again, you are a pilgrim making a difficult journey through a strange land. As far as your relationship to God, your position, is concerned, you are complete in Christ and that will never change. Colossians 2: 10:   10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:  As far as your spiritual batting average, your state, is concerned, you are a wrestler “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6: 12:  12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. This war is real! It is the greatest war that will ever be fought in all of eternity: it is the angelic conflict – and you are in it! There are no conscientious objectors and no pacifists in this one. Your performance as a soldier will not be perfect this side of Heaven, but it will be characterized by daily victory or by daily defeat. How ya doin’? If you’re like me, and you need a lot of encouragement, here it is: Christ is on your side. Even better, you are on His!

Don’t worry about poor self-image. The Scriptures don’t warn us about poor self-image, they warn us about inflated self-image. Romans 12: 3:  3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. The Scriptures teach us to be humble. Being humble is not the same as groveling. Humility is simply the ability to be objective about ourselves. Lectures on how to feel good about yourself only make you self-conscious when God wants you to be Christ-conscious. The Christ-conscious person is focused on Christ, not on self. He knows that in Adam he is a total write-off and in Christ he is complete. We are told to “Walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5: 16:  16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. There is no place in our spiritual walk for good self-image, and no need for a lecture on how to feel good about ourselves. Walking in the Spirit requires concentration on Christ.

We can neither buy nor earn salvation. We can only be saved, (born again from above-born twice) only if we believe what God says of His Son and act upon it. The gospel is not something for you to do but something for you to believe. So now I will give you all that you need to understand and sincerely believe in order to be born twice, (or to have a new spiritual birth) and be forgiven of all your sins, past, present, and future. If you believe in your heart what I am going to tell you, then your eternal destiny will be in Heaven with God, and that is the bottom line!

CHRIST’S BLOOD IS FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

Romans 3:24-25 says: 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. BELIEVE

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BELIEVE AND UNDERSTAND ALL THE ABOVE?

Ephesians 1:13-14 says: 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest (guarantee) of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.  (until we die or the Rapture takes place) This is why I made the statement in the beginning of this article, “ If you are born twice, you will only die once” (maybe); because if the Rapture takes place while we are still living we will not experience physical death. What a blessing that would be! BELIEVE

I hope from all this you understand there is absolutely no works for salvation; it is faith or belief plus nothing.  Romans 4:5 says: 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Ephesians 2:8-9 says: 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

As I stated in the beginning of this article, If you have only been born once, you will die twice, (a physical and a spiritual death), but if you have been born twice, you will only die once (a physical death, maybe) unless the Rapture takes place, then you will not even die physically. Being born twice is the same as salvation; meaning you were born as a physical human being and when you believed the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection, you were born spiritually into Gods family called the Body of Christ. Being born twice means you have a guarantee from God that your eternal destiny is sealed by God the Holy Spirit and you shall be in Heaven with the triune God for eternity.

Even when you sin as a believer, remember to thank God for His throne of Grace because all of your sins have already been paid for by Christ at Calvary, past, present, and future, but you do not have a license to sin, but liberty to serve.

Now you know the bottom line about your eternal destiny. Which destiny will you choose? It’s all up to YOU!

Have a wonderful day!

John
