(Q) How important is it to have a love for God’s truth?
- Very, very important! Your Salvation depends upon God’s truth. II Timothy 2:15 says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This verse tells us that the whole Bible is God’s truth, but it must be rightly divided so we know what truth applies to us today. Not all of God’s truth in the Bible is for our obedience today. Instructions given to the Jewish nation of Israel who were under the law are for our learning. Romans 15:4: 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Today we are not under the law, because Christ nailed the law and ordinances to His cross and took them out of the way. God then started a new program for the Gentiles through the Apostle Paul. This new program or new set of instruction which God gave to Paul to give to us is all about Salvation by God’s grace without works of the law.
“[God] will have ALL men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 2:4
Here is what God says about His truth: II Thessalonians 2:7-13:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause, God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.
The church today is facing a gospel crisis. No one can agree on what the gospel is for today. This is why God says we must RIGHTLY DIVIDE HIS WORD OF TRUTH IN II TIMOTHY 2:15. The gospel for today is found in I Corinthians 15:1-4. Also see Ephesians 1:13-14 and Ephesians 2:8-9.
I Thessalonians 2:13: 13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him (Thomas), I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 17:17 says: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy WORD is truth. The Word was God in the flesh, Jesus Christ.
Christ Is the truth, and the Christian Bible is the Word of the true living God: John 17:17 says: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Ephesians 4:21: If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: I Timothy 3:15: But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. I Thessalonians 2:13:For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. I Timothy 2:4: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
I John 5:6-8,20 says: This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Ephesians 4:21: If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Today, the law has been done away with. We are under grace alone with no works. But we must Believe the gospel of grace before it will apply to us as Individuals.
Romans 3:19-31 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 29Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid, yea, we establish the law.
God says we are not under the law, but does that give us a license to sin? NO, God forbid, yea, we establish the law. What does it mean to establish the Law? Galatians 5:1: 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. As believers Gods wants us to keep the law willingly, but if we do sin, God will not condemn us because Christ paid for all sin at Calvary, past, present, and future. We should not want to sin, but do our best not to sin which is pleasing to God. Believers are still in the flesh and God knows we will still sin. Believers will not be judged at death for sin but judged for rewards according to how we served God in this life after we put out trust in Christ for salvation
Galatians 3:1: 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Romans 5:1: Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Yes, it is very important to have a love for God’s truth; so, study to show yourself approved of God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth.
Have a blessed day and give God the glory for all His truth revealed in His written Word.
