Rightly dividing the Word of truth
This is part 6 in a series of 53 articles about RIGHTLY DIVIDING GOD’S WORD OF TRUTH. All scripture quoted will be from the King James Bible.
In part 6, we will be discussing the holy city, the New Jerusalem, and the “many mansions” in John 14:2-3.
Revelation 21:1-3,10,12,14: 1 And I (John) saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 10 And he (one of God’s angels) carried me (John) away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 12And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
In Hebrews 11:8-10 we also read about Abraham looking for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God: 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. What city was Abraham looking for? Hebrews 12:22: But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angel.
The heavenly Jerusalem mentioned above, and the holy city, the New Jerusalem are the same place, which is coming down out of heaven to the new earth. This will not take place until the Thousand Year reign of Christ on the earth is over, which is also called the Millennium.
Now, Christ was talking to Peter when He said in John 14:2: 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Where are these mansions? Will they be in heaven like most churches believe and teach, or will they be on the earth?
Nowhere does the Bible refer to “heaven” as “My Father’s house.” However, Jesus called the temple on earth “My Father’s house” in John 2:16. “Mansions” translates from a word that means dwelling place, any place of residence; a house; a habitation.
In part 7, we will find out where God’s place of residence is at right now. ——To be continued
