Rightly dividing the Word of truth

This is part 8 in a series of 53 articles about RIGHTLY DIVIDING GOD’S WORD OF TRUTH. All scripture quoted will be from the King James Bible.

In part 8, we will continue showing how enormous the New Jerusalem will be.

Some of the information describing the size of the New Jerusalem, was taken from the CIA, or the Central Intelligence Agency of the U.S. World Factbook.

Now, let’s try and picture this – the city itself would stretch from the eastern seaboard of the U.S. all the way to the Mississippi River on one side and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico on the other!  That’s one big city!!  Dr. Henry Morris, who is an expert engineer did some math on this and gave an estimated population of possibly twenty billion residents, each person would enjoy a block of space of approximately one cubic mile, or its length, breadth, and height would be a little over a third of a mile in each direction!

We cannot know for sure how much space each mansion will take up, but just to show another way how big the holy city will be, look at the following example: If we ignore the areas that might be taken up for public use, streets, etc., and cram every individual into a prison-cell sized room, you could fit one quintillion (one billion, billion people inside the city. The number one quintillion equals a one with 18 zeros after it; 1,000,000,000,000,000,000. In other words, there will be more than enough room for all the Old Testaments saints.

The New Jerusalem will be much, much bigger than anything man could ever build. Only God is capable of building such a huge structure.

Now, we know what John 14:2 is talking about when it says: In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. All of this is part of God’s earthly program, here on “the new earth.”  All the O.T. people who were true believers, will have a part of this earthly program, they will be here on the new earth, with new terrestrial bodies as it say’s in I Corinthians 15:40.

But where are all the O.T. saints right now? Let’s find out!

When Jesus Christ was crucified at Calvary, He went “into the lower parts of the earth” as it says in Ephesians 4:9; that is to Sheol/Hades, “in the heart of the earth,” for three days and nights while his body was in the grave. The Lord Jesus also said that “as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth,” Matthew 12:40. Christ was saying that He would spend the time between His death and resurrection in Sheol/Hades. We know from Psalm 16:10 and Acts 2:25-32 that the Lord’s soul, which was made an offering for sin Isaiah 53:10, was in Sheol/Hades, and we know from Matthew 12:40 that He was in the heart of the earth, which is where Sheol/Hades was located.
